Lorraine Boettner’s “Reformed Doctrine of Predestination” offers a clear explanation of the Calvinist position on Predestination. The creeds of many evangelical churches include the doctrine, but few contemporary Christians study it. A cogent presentation of the theology and history of Calvinism and Predestination, Boettner’s book treats a topic that deserves to be revisited.

Reformed Doctrine of Predestination Lorraine Boettner 9781468124972 Books Reviews

Although the title of this book is "The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination," predestination is only part of what Lorraine Boettner covers in this book. While he does discuss and defend unconditional election in detail and admirably shows how God's sovereign grace requires unconditional election and how this is consistent with a good and loving God, Boettner discusses much more. Included is a description and defense of all of the so-called "five points" of Calvinism The total depravity and inability of human beings, unconditional election, definite (limited) atonement, efficacious grace, and the perseverance and preservation of the saints. Boettner's postmillennial position is also brought into play in this book, in which he argues that in the long run those who are saved will outweigh the damned. (For those interested in Boettner's eschatology, his book, "The Millennium," goes into his defense of postmillennialism in more detail.)

Other excellent defenses of Reformed soteriology are available, but for the beginner, who wants an overview of the Reformed distinctives, none is more clearly written or provides a better basic summation of the position than does Boettner's book. As with his other writings, Boettner makes frequent use of Scripture to support his position. Not everyone will agree with all the details of Boettner's position or even his overall perspective, but one cannot read this book without a degree of admiration for Boettner's positive and, all things considered, irenic spirit.
This book is written so clear, so easy to understand yet goes deep into what you really want and need to know about Predestination. An awesome book and I am thankful for the extra electronic copy sent to my note so I could start to read right away.
If you want a detailed book on this important subject this is the one to read!
Excellent! Refreshing! Renewing!
This book thoroughly covers the subject with scripture references throughout. Most people that don't agree with predestination give the arugument that it denies man's free will. This writer provides substantial proof that predestination in no way interfers with man's free choice.
The later part of the book gives a history of the doctrine, who originalted it, and how it has progressed over the years. The Pilgrams and Puritans brought this doctrine to our country after being prosocuted in England, France, and Holland.

Anyone having an interest in the subject should read the book for a better understanding of the subjedct.
Good read
Goof book. Helps you understand Predestination and author uses a lot of SCRIPTURE. No technical jargon.
Nice in depth study for me.
